I've been here multiple times and all the dishes are so good here. Their services are so great! There can be long line during weekends but it moves pretty fast.

Food is great! We got the soft shell crab, beef skewers, and a sushi don. Everything is tasty.

I once wrote a pretty mediocre review for this place back in the early 2010s but this place has become markedly different from how it was 10+ years ago. Tatami room seating was fantastic but we were drinking a good amount and I couldnt help but wonder if anyone's fallen through a screen wall before. Anyway, I took extra care to not go through that experience.
Fish quality was great, fresh hamachi was plenty juicy and the salmon was nice and rich. I think the knifework was pretty solid. The main improvement from 10 years ago was service, everything was far more attentive. Food actually showed up at a good pace this time as opposed to what we previously experienced of 2 hours wait with 3 items popping up in a 5 minute cluster.
They definitely manage the kitchen alot better nowadays. I think things always roll out at a nice pace. I absolutely love eating here now!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily L.Berkeley, CA98535152May 14, 2024
Been here twice - once for the boxes, then sushi + hand rolls.
Fish quality of the boxes + higher end/specialty hand rolls aren't worth it to me, but I did enjoy the sushi and regular hand rolls. I recommend the more casual items if you're looking for a tastier meal and value. Boxes are better for photos and the experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 22, 2024
You've seen the reviews, the line outside, the social posts. They're really good.
My sister came to babysit so of course that means sushi for our date night.
We ordered the:
1. Softshell crab. Delicious.
2. Agedashi tofu. Also delicious.
3. One kaisendon. Ditto.
4. Two omakase sashimi. Ditto.
We could've gone with one omakase sashimi instead of two. I'm glad we didn't get the nigiri. It didn't look as nice as the sashimi from a presentation perspective in my opinion. We had so much rice from our kaisendon that it all balanced out.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 23, 20241 check-in
Mmm rantei was so good!
Their salmon belly and hamachi belly was super fresh! I would love to try their other fish. As for the Kaisen Don, that's what everyone comes here for. Uni was a smaller portion but never fails to satisfy me. Underneath was rice which I had no idea! Presentation was amazing.
We also had sake that was recommended by our server. Not my cup of tea, but had to try it! Also got another roll which was not pictured here but it was good.
Additionally, they do not take waitlist over the phone. Go into the restaurant and scan the QR code. Came on a Saturday and the wait was about 20 min or so. The server was nice enough to let us change our seats as it was kind of awkward having one person eat on the side of the table... ending up getting a corner table tucked away in the restaurant! On a Saturday night, we only waited around 10 min at 7:30pm for a party of 2.
Kaisen Don: 4.5/5. Seafood spread over a bed of rice. I wish they had a little more uni for the price.
We also ordered 2 other rolls. They were ok.
Will be back for other items!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 35593123May 7, 2024
We walked up on a Tuesday night at 6:30 pm to a crowd of people standing outside. We noted we must have hit the dinner rush. They have a waitlist that you sign your name on. The square outside is comfortable to sit around in and we chatted while waiting. We waited about 30 minutes before being seated. The line died down a little bit after us.
Once seated we were served quickly and our food came out almost instantly.
We ordered chicken karage and miso soup to start, but the chicken came out a little later.
Chicken krage: disappointing, lacked much flavor.
Miso soup: delicious and rich!
Rantei roll: their signature roll did not disappoint. Delicious and fresh!
Chirashi Don: loved the presentation and the fish quality was high for the price point.
Spicy tuna: classic but delicious. I liked the extra garnish they put on it. Same quality as any high quality sushi place.
Overall the ambiance here is amazing and it's the perfect date night spot. The price to quality is very good. Our bill was $100 for 2 people and we left full which is sometimes hard to do at sushi places.
We'll definitely add this to our sushi rotation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
