Soprano
Julia Yuji Bae

    Soprano Julia Yuji Bae, a native of Seoul, South Korea is a young, growing lyric soprano. In the spring of 2015, Ms. Bae made her opera debut as Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Indiana University Opera Theatre. Also in the spring of 2016, Bae sang Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at IU Opera Theatre. That summer, she made her European debut by singing the role of Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at The Estates Theatre in Prague, Czech Republic, where Mozart himself conducted its world premiere in 1787. In the summer of 2017, She performed the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in Weimar, Germany. In 2018, she sang the role of Liu from Puccini's Turandot with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. The summer of 2018, she sang the role of Mimì from Puccini's La bohème with Pittsburgh Festival Opera. After singing Ms Jessel from The Turn of The Screw in the fall, most recently, She worked with Virginia Opera covering Cio-Cio San from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. 

    Ms. Bae studied at Indiana University under Ms. Costanza Cuccaro, where Ms. Bae  received her Artist Diploma degree. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music from the Seoul National University (SNU), where she studied with bass Philip Kang. After she received her B.M. from SNU, she studied at Rimini Academia, Italy, where she studied the role of Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata. She received her Master's degree at College- Conservatory of Music (CCM), University of Cincinnati. 

    Ms. Bae is a central region finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions 2019. In the spring of 2018, she earned the second prize from Three Arts Competition in Cincinnati. In 2017, she was a winner of the National Society of Arts and Letters competition. In the past, She has performed in the new rising stars concert in Seoul, South Korea. Also she sang in a gala concert in Pesaro, Italy, where she was the first-place winner of The International Music Competition “Citta di Pesaro” in the spring  of 2014. She also won the first-place winner of the Korea Herald Music Competition, the third-place winner of the Music Education News Competition, special prize of The National Teenager Music Competition, as well as the second-place winner of the Bucheon Teenager Music Competition.
